In our day and age, it’s easy to get tempted to buy an arsenal of tools for all imaginable jobs around the house. But with over-consumption being a huge problem today, it really is worthwhile to use the principle of multifunctionality in everything we do. House-keeping included. Next time you see an ad for a new contraption, first ask yourself, can I do without it with the tools I already have?
You might be surprised by all the ingenious ways we can use simple tools that we already have in our houses.
The highlight of today’s article is one such tool. Meet Mr. squeegee.
Find out in our article some of the most useful ways you can use it to keep your house blissful.
You think this is an obvious one. But what if we told you four tips that will take your squeegee cleaning one level up?
The first tip is really related to the cleaning solution you use with a squeegee. It pays to pick the one that is designed for streak-free cleaning with a squeegee as there are different types. The streak-free ones tend to do a cleaner job. It will do a much better job if you have a shiny floor finish.
Our second tip: Sweep first.
Remember that a squeegee is not a replacement for a broom. The number one cause of streaks on just cleaned floors is stuff stuck under the squeegee edge.
Our third tip: Once you applied the cleaning solution, use a sponge or mop to go over the entire floor and clean the access water and any loose dirt. Then use a clean mop rinsed in clean water to remove your cleaning solution. Finally, use your floor squeegee running it across the floor in a top-to-bottom direction overlapping the rows with each stroke. This will ensure your floor gets a streak-free shine.
Our fourth tip is that floor squeegees can double as window cleaners.
Clean windows and mirrors
You can use a floor squeegee to clean glass surfaces in your house. After all, a squeegee was designed for cleaning flat surfaces – no matter floor or windows – and it does its job splendidly. It leaves streak-free, shiny glass, while messy cloths can leave behind smudges, streaks, or even pieces of material. When using your floor squeegee on windows and mirrors, make sure to fold the handle or use a short one no to wreck chaos in your house.
Clean shower walls and door
Everybody knows water in modern cities and towns is hard. This leads to stains on bathroom walls and doors that are hard to remove once they settle in. One way to avoid this is to regularly mist the walls with a cleaning solution specially designed for this purpose. Best if done after every shower, but at least once a week.
Another option is to use a long-handled floor squeegee to wipe down the walls. Simply use the squeegee as you would use it to wipe down the floor to remove any excess water. This will help reduce stains but won’t prevent them completely. For better results, wipe the walls dry after working them with a squeegee.
Use the same technique to get the excess water off the shower doors.
We can’t stress enough the importance of keeping your tools clean. Clean tools equal clean house!
You need to make sure your squeegee is ready for action. After each use thoroughly rinse the squeegee in warm water.
